OUR HISTORY

For the past ten years, the Alliance has worked solely from volunteer efforts. As a group, we do together what no organization can do independently.  Since its founding, the Alliance has been committed to promoting cultural expression and fostering a sense of pride and belonging in the Rundberg area. The seeds of the Alliance started with the Restore Rundberg initiative when in 2012, the Rundberg neighborhood, grappling with high crime rates, received a critical boost with funding from the Department of Justice for the launch of the "Restore Rundberg" initiative. This effort represented a turning point, signaling the start of a concerted effort to rejuvenate and empower the community. At that time, the Austin Police Department (APD) played a crucial role in shifting the focus from strict enforcement to community engagement and collaboration.

In 2014, The Rundberg Educational Advancement District (READ) Alliance was established. This maked a significant shift towards prioritizing education and youth engagement, aiming to sustain and build upon the progress made in reducing crime. In 2020, the READ Alliance became known as the Rundberg Alliance.
